Privacy Policy

Effective: June 7, 2026

Chrome Notes does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking, and no server — there is nowhere for your data to go.

What data the extension handles

  • Your notes & settings (note text, titles, theme, font size, focus‑mode preference) are saved only in your browser's local storage on your own device, using the storage permission.
  • This data never leaves your device. We cannot see it, and neither can Google, Apple, or Microsoft.

Permissions & why they're used

  • storage — to save your notes and preferences locally so they persist between sessions.
  • contextMenus — to add the right‑click “Send selection to a new note” option.
  • clipboardRead / clipboardWrite — to power the in‑app Paste, Cut, and Copy buttons.
  • Microphone (optional) — only if you use Dictation. Speech is processed by your browser's built‑in speech recognition; the extension does not record, store, or transmit any audio. You may decline, and the rest of the extension works normally.

Third parties

The extension makes no network requests and includes no third‑party code, ads, or trackers. Text‑to‑speech and speech‑to‑text use your browser's own Web Speech APIs.

Children's privacy

The extension collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Effective” date above will be updated. Continued use of the extension after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Frequently asked

  • Where are my notes stored? Locally in your browser, on your device only. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Will I lose my notes if I reinstall? To be safe, use Backup to export a JSON file first, then Restore after reinstalling.
  • Dictation says “not allowed.” The first time, a small page opens asking for microphone access — click Allow once, then dictation works.
  • How do I open it quickly? Press Ctrl+Shift+X (⌘+Shift+X on Mac), or click the toolbar icon.
